Diary of a Poisoner – Day 1404, am I back….?

I don’t know if this will be the beginnings of a resurgence of all things Blog related, it’s certainly been a while. Largely due to continuing frustrations over accessibility of WordPress TBH.

So what’s been happening, lots. Has the illness cleared up? Nope it’s got worse and still no official medical word on the problem. I did swallow a small camera, which was a technological marvel, but the results haven’t come back yet (it’s been 8 weeks!).

But enough of that, I’m actually writing today due to something that somewhat tickles me at work today. Last week we were told that we would be doing Myers-Briggs personality assessments at work, I’ve done Myers-Briggs quite a few times before over many years, and I actually like it, when it’s done properly. So upon hearing last Thursday that as a team we would be doing Myers-Briggs, my immediate question was – “what properly, the full questionnaire with analysis?” As I was surprised because it actually costs money for each questionnaire submitted, and there’s about 12 of us in the team, and we are not a management team, so I was prepared to be surprised by the answer (no I wasn’t, I knew what the answer was going to be). “Ahhhhhh” came back the reply, “person X in the company has done Myers-Briggs and is coming along to run a session for us”.

“Oh” my cynicism coming to the fore, “not the full test then?”

“No, but I think the team will benefit, has anyone done it before?”

My cynical hand is the only one raised.

As previously mentioned, I’ve done it a few times (properly!) before, so I know how it works. I voiced concerns that I didn’t the team would benefit, unless it was done properly. But I was ignored.

So today we had “the session”. Person X came in and talked (very) briefly about what Myers-Briggs is (no mention of its Jungian psychological routes, which in all previous instances I’ve attended has been the starting point). Then we were told there would be some which we needed to answer, these answers would provide us with our magic 4 letter personality code (I’m INTP, I’ve always come out as INTP, in fact the last time I did it, the assessor pointed that was the most extreme “I” score they had seen).

Proper Myers-Briggs involves 100+ questions to answer, what possible magical number could they have distillers this down to help our team  do the whole thing in 1 hour (in actual fact it took 30 mins, including awkward discussion afterwards)….?

The magic answer was of course 4.  4! And each question had 2 possible answers (those that know Myers-Briggs will have already identified these answers, but let everyone else catch up please).

Question 1 answers were E for Extravert or I for Introvert.

Question 2 answers were N for Intuition or S for Sensing.

Question 3 answers were F for Feeling or T for Thinking.

Questions 4 answers were P for Perception or J for Judging.

And that was it, we then had an awkward group discussion about our newly identified personality type made up of 4 letters. And we’re given a short paragraph detailing what our mysterious code meant, and pointed to the internet to discover more.

Person X then excused themselves and left, I tried to impart some of my experience with Myers-Briggs to the team, but to be honest by that time the damage was done and people were largely perplexed.

All in all it was a lesson of where doing something badly is far worse than doing nothing at all. And just wound me up, but then maybe that’s just because I’m an INTP so naturally cynical.

That’s my rant over, for now.

Hello again dear blog, it’s been a while, yep I’ve definitely fallen out of love with you recently, so much so that not even the desire to write regular could bring me back. It’s your own fault though, this most recent update to the App is still diabolical and verges on being completely unusable 😦

So what’s been happening, well the bad stuff first, I’ve basically spent most of December shitting blood, in total so far in the 12th and final month of this year I’ve not passed blood clots on about 5 days. So to say I’m ill and suffering is somewhat of an understatement! It’s become more and more of a struggle to function reasonably, but I have managed to keep turning up for work, so bonus points for that πŸ™‚

This week Aiden was really ill, meaning I resorted to staying awake all night on Tuesday with him, so sleep has been a luxury I’ve been largely doing without this December (because poorly belly consistently wakes me through the night). However Aiden is with us now -and thankfully seems fine now, we’ve had a good Xmas day πŸ˜‰

Good stuff now, I had a birthday – yay! I got lots of books – yay! Including the D&D books, so I’ve started running a game for the little ones and The Forger. Of course they’re loving it. We have a party consisting of a Half Elf Druid, a Tiefling Ranger and a Goliah Panda Monk (basically Po from Kung fu Panda as that’s what Aiden wanted to be, fortunately there is a decent character build on the interwebs).

It’s Xmas so we had planned to head west into the Black Country (aka Mordor) for Xmas day and then south for Boxing Day. Sadly last minute illness issues meant we had to abandon Mordor and just come south for the festive period. But it’s been a great day, and the first time in many, many years that both myself and my brother have been at the old family dwelling on Xmas day πŸ™‚

Well it just remains to wish any keen readers that are sticking with my humble and increasingly sporadic blog a merry Xmas and a happy new year πŸ˜€

Oops another 14 hiatus, of course illness played it’s part, there was a period with such low energy reserves that I was hitting the sack at about 20-00 each night. In fact this Tuesday evening when I had te little ones, I retired to bed once they were squared away so at about 19-00 😦

Lots has happened again of course, we had a big family wedding, and the little ones were absolutely awesome the whole time.

I’ve dressed in a big bear costume on 2 different days, helping to raise money for Children in Need.

And finally I went to the hospital to see the consultant about my ongoing illness. Good(ish) news there, he didn’t try to fob me off with IBS (as has previously been the case). So I’m going to get out onto a special diet to see if that does anything (some special medically worked out one, it did have a particular name, but I’ve forgotten it). If that doesn’t help then I get to swallow a pill camera and have a full movie of my insides πŸ˜‰

Right time for some photos now………

Remember, remember,

The 5th of November,

Gunpowder, treason and plot.

I see no reason,

Why gunpowder and treason

Should ever be forgot.

It’s V for Vendetta day, or the day to remember when the last person with honest intentions enter the Houses of Parliament πŸ™‚

Now for writings of a more mundane fair, I continue to be very ill. Extreme fatigue continues to plague me as food is going Srinagar through, on te plus side though blood is only appearing every other day, which is an improvement.

We have a very busy weekend planned, tomorrow I’m on Pudsey (actually Blush, Pudsey’s female best friend) duty for the big fireworks display which my workplace run. And finally in the 3rd year of trying the little ones will be present -Yay!

Following that busy Friday night is my brothers wedding, at which Paige is a bridesmaid, and we’re all stopping the night in a hotel, which for us is a massive adventure in itself.

Yesterday afternoon was Aiden’s review meeting at school. This is the first such meeting at the “big” school which he just moved up to. Now prior to him moving up we prepared them for the worst, as this was a going to be a big change to his school routine. Turns out it’s been easy and Aiden has adapted easily with no issues. His teachers (& teaching assistant) were full of good news, and it appears that he has charmed them all as they clearly adore him πŸ˜€

Finally I thought I’d share some pictures from our Halloween (did I do that already? I can’t be bothered to go and check). We carved up a pumpkin (it was supposed to be a group effort but ended up just me and The Forger) and I made sure the insides of the pumpkin were used for tea that evening as well πŸ˜‰

Well I still absolutely loathe this current version of the WordPress App, it’s so user unfriendly, couple with some troublesome quirks (it doesn’t like it when you hit Enter and the resulting gap you get is random!), but wow a second post in a week, this is unheard of in recent times πŸ™‚

So what’s got me posting more “news” this week then? Well mainly that I’ve upgraded to a new level of ill – boo! So I’ve suffered from new levels of exhaustion this week, very often retiring to bed around 20-00……… Coupled with usual stomach issues, but I’m just entering the second day of passing blood – most inpleseant 😦

To further complicate things today should be my day off work (Friday) with the kids (as it’s half term). But I’ve had to do some trading of days off as we have the little ones next week as well for an exciting family wedding πŸ™‚ So I’m working this morning, and for the second time in 2 weeks this work largely involves me running a long presentation for a big group. Beginning of last week I was responsible for a big (brand new) launch/first ever presentation to aour big area of “Shares Services” as we’re known. It was only by my force of will an mentoring that this presentation happened, plus I kept the thing running by basically Compereing it. I’m pretty much doing the same this morning with another big presentation. Now from last week lots of feedback has come in (via an online questionnaire that was sent), and it was nice to see that my name actually appeared as the thing people most enjoyed πŸ™‚ But this level of recognition has not managed to manifest itself into actual thanks or praise from my department, that seems reeves for those that just do their day job or pass their driving test?!?

Well that’s it for now, I’ll be getting the little ones this afternoon once I’ve delivered another fun presentation session for absolutely no recognition πŸ™‚

Clearly the love affair with blog has waned recently, but I’ve forced myself back into it this morning …….. Part of the problem is definitely the changes that have been made to the App, it’s such a chore to use now, I long for the halcyon days of simplistic blog posting 😦

But enough grumbling, illness of course continues unabated, the other week I was having a new test in Hospital, and the test took 3 hours to perform so I got to wear my special person red bracelet whilst I was admitted (& then as usual forgotten about for an hour). The test was to see if I’m allergic to Lactose, officially I’m not – Yay! However as usual I did display the physical symptoms of being allergic, whilst the science showed I was deficient in lactose. I would like to go on record as saying I went into the test determined not to be allergic to Lactose, so psychosomatically the results don’t add up either :-/

Now the fun bit, yesterday I was involved in a full Geek day πŸ˜‰ we started a new Roleplay game – Victoriana finished last time – and it was time for D&D 5th Ed. I stayed true to my plan and didn’t build a Rogue class character, I’m the Fighter for the party. And “Rudi” did a pretty decent job of tanking. Sure I just about failed every to hit roll, but all my perception and intimidate rolls worked, in fact the intimidation criticaled meaning it succeded and then some actually avoiding a fight for the party πŸ™‚

I also unwittingly Roleplayers the hell out of the character, only realizing it upon reviewing my character sheet once home. Much to the rest of the parties bemusement in every combat (where I mostly didn’t hit) Rudi just strode forward to meet the threat literally head on. Now as a background choice my character flaw is that he believes himself impervious to harm (despite the fact I was the only character to go down to 0 hit points and get my death rolls at 3 successes, 2 failures – it was tense with that last roll!). His belief is based on (via the back story I wrote) the fact that upon hearing from other soldiers that there is a sword or arrow out there with your name on, Rudi keeps in a pouch around his neck and arrow head and a piece of blade with his name inscribed on πŸ™‚ And just to make absolutely sure Rudi (which everybody knows him as) isn’t his real name, as his logic dictated that it would be really clever to change his name and keep his real name secret, but still inscribed uppon those 2 items around his neck πŸ™‚

So by blindly bulling into all combats I was not only making sure I don’t slip into a rogue class (my usual Modus Operandi), but also sticking closely to my characters background πŸ˜‰

Hello again world, it’s been a while πŸ™‚ once again I’ve struggled with either time, inclination or energy to keep things updated……….

A few things have occurred over the recent break in ramblings. Firstly I performed at an open mic comedy night last week. The journey home from that (we got in about 01:45!) proved difficult. Whenever we end up Birmingham way Nottingham seems to get quarantined and all the roads that lead us home end up closed, so after a long night of comedy, both performing and watching, I needed my wits about me to fulfill the role of navigator πŸ™‚

The performance itself was great, at least that’s how it felt. There were many other acts on that night (12 of us and a compere), and the feedback from them very positive. Clearly I’m slowly building to something else here………. There was also a reviewer in the audience πŸ˜‰

I didn’t get a bad review, I think it was fair, but what was said doesn’t match the direct feedback from the other performers I received, or the audience. I realise that a review is only one persons take on it. I also wholeheartedly agree that the material I used needs to be stronger, being a new material open mic night I was using brand new material. In fact I new my ending was poor and needed development, but I figured I’d give it a go and see what happens πŸ™‚

Secondly (remember at the beginning I said “things” -plural) the Forger had a good weekend for her business. Her massage service was procured by a group of Live Action Roleplayers for back to back treatments on the Saturday, she went along and deliver flawless service, so good in fact that they booked for the whole day on Sunday too, and for tier next gathering in 6 months time πŸ˜€

Finally, for now at least, the band for back together last. Our Roleplay group reconvined in order to play a quick game of Age of Sigmar. It was fun and I thoroughly enjoyed myself. Now time for some pictures πŸ™‚

I was playing Empire and got wiped out completely by Orcs πŸ˜‰
