Ooh had an exciting evening today, I’ve only just got back from a resurrected Geek Night 🙂
It used to be a regular Wednesday night occurrence, but due to a few in the group having other commitments, we had to halt it about 6 months ago. But we managed to get the group back together tonight – Yay!
Before you judgement for being a role player, I should point out that the it’s great fun 😉 but of course I am bias. I like the fact that no matter why else is going on, you can spend a little bit of time being someone/thing completely different, so the escapism really appeals. Also, we always have a great laugh, largely because we play in a very lighthearted way, and myself and one if the other players regularly get ourselves into very silly/precarious situations, and invariably fail the easiest dice rolls to try and do the simplest of things.
Our group is blessed with having a fantastic GM, who not only loves running the games, but knows how to get the best out of people. So much so that he had even prepared full characters and a quick adventure or us to play tonight.
So, what did we play? Call of Cuthulhu of course (try saying that 3 times quickly). It was great, lots of horror and mystery, plenty of laughs, and 2 character deaths from a party of 5. But then playing Cuthulhu you dot expect to hang on to a character for very long. For those in the know, my character did survive, but he had much less sanity points that the other survivors, so wouldn’t been likely to survive another adventure. In fact he’s probably been shipped off to a mental hospital 🙂
