Watch out, it’s going to be a picture heavy post today. Once we were all up I made sure we were ready to go along and watch a special event. The Royal Engineers were going to be having a parade through our town today, with a drumhead ceremony at one of the parks. It was a pretty big event with the main road closed and a marching band.
Obviously my 2 were very excited when I told them about it and even better we had great weather, so we all went in shorts. Once there we were all given flags to wave, and sticks of rock from the town council, obviously with the towns name all the way through, which was good ๐Ÿ™‚
We waited around for a while, and there were plenty of soldiers about along with a great crowd from the town. Completely by accident it transpired that where I’d chosen to stand with Paige and Aiden was the place where the Commanding Officer and local dignitaries were receiving the “eyes right” salut. So once the marching and band started we had a great viewpoint. Aiden was in my shoulders loving it, and Paige was shouting and waving her flag. Once the march had gone by we joined the crowd following in behind and headed to the park. Paige walked along with a couple of her friends that we bumped into, meanwhile Aiden walked with me and noticed that a soldier was walking near us. So Aiden started talking to him. I could see he was a Staff Sergeant (or maybe Colour Sergeant I can never remember the form address used by the Engineers), anyway “Jay” as he introduced himself when Aiden asked his name, was very patient with Aiden and they had a great chat. Afterwards I thanked him lots and explained that Aiden was Autistic.Again at the park there was a great turnout, and I’d even come prepared, as it obviously took a while for the park ceremony to get under way. I’d secreted about person a cheeky little fold up frisbee. So we played around for quite a while ๐Ÿ™‚
Before long though the little ones started to get tired and hungry, so we sneaked away before the end of the ceremony.
We all enjoyed ourselves and the afternoon was spent playing games and watching films, but at least we spent all morning in the sunshine ๐Ÿ™‚
For me the only slight mar on the day was when walking along with Paige’s friends (and obviously their mothers), Paige said something quite amusing about how excited she was, one of the mothers than made a big deal out of saying how she would tell Paige’s mum all about it. This narked me somewhat, I couldn’t really say why, it just seemed (and was delivered in such a way) to be inappropriate. Still it was one little thing, and at least the little ones were overjoyed with our latest adventure ๐Ÿ˜‰

Now into the pictures.
